My preferred transportation choice is walking. I love being able to walk to work, restaurants, a park, grocery stores, and service
amenities. Walking allows me to enjoy the outdoors and my neighborhood, while getting some exercise.
When my husband, John Dye, has a little free time at work, I enjoy walking from our home in Church Hill to the MCV hospital for a lunch date - yes, this means walking up the big hill on E. Broad! A few times a week I hop down to the Capital Trail for a run or bike ride with my husband or a friend. I really enjoy how the Trail is connected to the Canal Walk, Belle Isle, and other trails in the city. Everything connected with SAFE walking/running/biking paths is my definition of having access to a good quality of life. Of course I love visiting other neighborhoods and cities too.
Sometimes I prefer other modes of transportation to these destinations so that I don’t have to worry about paying for gas and finding parking, or driving on that occasional night out after a glass of wine. Having transportation choices is not only cleaner for the environment, but good on your wallet, health, and safer for the community. Safe transportation options allow me to explore and appreciate my own community and at the same time feel connected to the rest of the world.
